Good news for coffee lovers of the archipelago! Indonesia has been selected to host the World of Coffee Championship in 2025. This prestigious world event will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on May 15-17, 2025.
As the fourth largest coffee producing country in the world, Indonesia has an unparalleled richness of coffee flavor. Various varieties of Indonesian coffee such as Arabica, Robusta, to luwak coffee have gone global and become a favorite of many people.
In 2023, SCAI and PMO Kopi Nusantara KBUMN conducted a bidding and followed a series of strict selections to get the opportunity to host. By hosting the World of Coffee Championship, Indonesia further solidifies its position as the world’s coffee mecca.
What is the World of Coffee Championship?
Quoted from the official Instagram account @kementerianbumn, the World of Coffee Championship is an international coffee event organized by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). The event brings together the best baristas, roasters, and coffee industry players from various countries to compete and showcase their skills.
Indonesian coffee has long been a favorite in the international arena. With a long history of coffee production and a rapidly growing market, Indonesia is a logical choice to host the World of Coffee. This position further strengthens Indonesia’s reputation as one of the world’s coffee centers.
Meanwhile, Mikael Jasin’s victory in the 2024 World Barista Championship is a clear proof of the quality of Indonesian baristas and is one of the strong reasons why Indonesia was chosen to host the world coffee competition next year.
“This annual event is usually held in consumer countries. But this time we are bringing World of Coffee back to the origin to Indonesia as a producing country. This will be the first WOC in Southeast Asia and a producing country,” the ministry wrote on its official Instagram page.
What will be in the World of Coffee Championship 2025?
During the three-day event, visitors will be spoiled with various interesting activities, such as:
- Barista Competition: The best baristas will compete in espresso, latte art, and other coffee drinks.
- Roasting Competition: Roasters will showcase their skills in processing raw coffee beans into quality coffee powder.
- Coffee Equipment Fair: Various top coffee equipment brands will be showcasing their latest products.
- Cupping Session: Visitors can join a cupping session to taste different types of coffee from around the world.

As we know, the organization of the World of Coffee Championship in Indonesia is carried out with the hope of having a significant positive impact. This event will further introduce the rich flavors of Indonesian coffee to the world, can be a promotional event for local coffee industry players, open many new job opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors, and increase the number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia.
The Ministry of SOEs sees a great opportunity in this event to promote Indonesian coffee to the world. “Let’s prepare ourselves to welcome the world’s largest coffee exhibition and competition event. Next year in Jakarta! It’s time for Indonesian coffee to take the stage! Save the date at May 15-17, 2025,” concluded the ministry’s account.
