The Origin of Joss Coffee

At first, this joss coffee was discovered by someone from Klaten, Central Java. Yes, it is true that the inventor of joss coffee did not come from Jogja, but from Klaten. His name is Lek Man, at first Lek Man opened an angkringan around the Tugu Station area in Jogja. At that time there were many customers of the angkringan who came from the East Java area. The customers asked the seller to make kothok/klotok coffee.

However, Lek Man could not make the klotok coffee. So, Lek Man made his own blend of coffee, which is now known as kopi joss. He adds pieces of charcoal that are still smoldering into the glass of coffee. The hope is that the coffee will be served very hot like klotok coffee. Since then, Kopi Joss has become widely known by people until it is as popular as it is today.

Even Kopi Joss itself has become a typical coffee drink menu that must be tried when we are visiting or vacationing in Yogyakarta. To get it is not difficult, almost every angkringan in Yogyakarta sells the joss coffee menu.
