“The fate of coffee farmers is not as bright as coffee shops.”

Perhaps that expression can represent the current condition of coffee farmers in Indonesia. Coffee is Indonesia’s main export commodity. The country is the world’s top coffee producer with a wide variety of products and quality recognized in the international market.

Sadly, the increase in the area of smallholder coffee plantations and global coffee demand is not directly proportional to the welfare of coffee farmers. The fate of coffee farmers is far from satisfactory. Therefore, improvement from upstream, especially farmers, is the key to developing the coffee ecosystem in Indonesia.

Education related to the world of coffee in Indonesia became interesting material in the KopiKita Book Talk Road Show in Bandar Lampung, Friday (23/9/2022).

This is the focus of the main topic in KopiKita Roadshow in Bandar Lampung on Saturday (23/9/2022), after successfully holding the first roadshow in Jakarta in early September. Located at Otello Coffee and Eatery, this roadshow event presented several speakers, namely Moelyono Soesilo as the author of the KopiKita book, Bob Hartopo Putranto from PT. Asia Makmur, Angga Hadi Setiawan as a millennial coffee farmer, and Karjo Matajat from PT. Sulotco Jaya Abadi.

“We held this second roadshow to discuss coffee from upstream as well as introduce the KopiKita application to the public. We hope that all stakeholders can connect and find out more about coffee development through the KopiKita application,” said Moelyono Soesilo as the author of the KopiKita book.

A number of observers, experts and book writers discussed the world of coffee for the advancement of the coffee industry in Indonesia, especially in the Lampung region.

In addition to launching the KopiKita application, the event also included the sale of the KopiKita book, whose royalties will be given 100 percent to coffee farmers. “I will give the book sales to the farmers as a reward for their hard work with coffee,” said Moelyono Soesilo.
